China's 45 trademark classes at a glance

Which class is your product in? A plain-language guide to all 45 classes—plus the similar-group point that decides what a registration is really worth.

How to use this page

  • China uses the Nice Classification (13th edition, in force from 2026-01-01)—34 classes of goods and 11 of services.
  • Beneath each class, China adds a further layer of similar groups. A registration protects you only in the similar groups you designate—not across the whole class.
  • Official fees are charged per class: CNY 270 per class for online filing, covering ten goods items.
  • The quick reference below is for orientation only, not the text a filing is based on. Filings follow the Chinese version and are made at the similar-group level.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just copy the classes from my US or EU registration?

As a starting point, yes; as the answer, no. Class numbers are the same worldwide—what China adds is the layer of similar groups beneath them, and that is where copied goods items quietly lose protection. Re-mapping at the similar-group level is exactly the step most foreign applications that run into trouble have skipped. How the mechanism works →

How many classes should I file in?

Cover what you actually sell today first, then make one judgment about where the brand goes next. The economics are transparent: each class carries its own official fee—CNY 270 per class for online filing, covering ten goods items. Tell us what you sell and a class map comes free with our first reply. How to engage us →

Who chooses the similar groups?

We do—that is the professional work itself. You describe the product in your own words; we map it to classes and similar groups and lay out what each choice covers and what it gives up. Filing the mark into the right similar groups is most of the job, which is why it is the first thing we do, not a patch applied afterwards.
